Day 4 - Travelling to Ibanda
Up at 6am, breakfast at 6.30am, then onto the bus for the long journey to Ibanda in the West of Uganda. We stopped a couple of times on the way, the first major stop being when we crossed the equator. That necessitated a large number of photos - I show you just a selection!
We also stopped to buy bananas; they tasted sweet and delicious, much nicer than in the UK. We also stopped at Mbarara to buy a few extra mosquito nets, then our last stop was at the Agip hotel for our last western loo.
Finally after about 7 hours driving we arrived at the Ibanda Integrated Primary School where we were to stay. There we were given a welcoming lunch with a superb array of food, very similar to the banquet we had tried in Kampala. A short afternoon visit to Nyakatakura Memorial Secondary School for welcoming speeches was the last formal item on the agenda.
Before supper at 8.30pm there was time for "personal administration". This was time for a shower (Ibanda style) and clean up. Ibanda showers were a bowl of hot water and a beaker; a bit tricky for the beginner. Bed was after supper with lights out at 10pm - that's when the generator went off usually.
