Day 1 - Just getting there

We set off from school just after 2pm with Mr Pellereau (in tropical shorts!) driving the minibus. Traffic was heavy on the motorway especially around Reading.  Reached Heathrow terminal 3 about 5pm and dropped off Liz, David and Louise who had to travel Ethiopian Airways via Addis Ababa. They had been bumped off our Kenyan Airways flight at the last minute.  The rest of us moved on to terminal 4.

The flight left London at 8.15pm or 10.15pm Ugandan time.  Flying through the night we tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to get some sleep and arrived in Nairobi around 6.20am.  The photos show the airoplane at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta airport, and us enjoying(!) a 5 hour stopover. The mango juice drink was gorgeous though.

Once we moved to the boarding lounge most of us lay on the floor and tried to get some sleep.  Al Groom was still full of bounce, however, and John was too posh to lie on the floor!

Eventually it was time to board and the plane took us to Entebbe arriving about noon.  The bus from the Kabira Club was waiting for us and soon we were squeezed aboard and had a most exciting drive into Kampala - our first taste of Uganda.

The Kabira Club turned out to be really luxurious and we were soon chilling by the pool or enjoying our accommodation.  In the evening some old friends dropped by.  The last photo shows John looking dodgy - don't know why.
